Fernando Prats
Artist in residence at The One Barcelona
Art and design join forces at The One Barcelona in a series of artworks commissioned by the hotel from Uruguayan artist Fernando Prats. Since its opening in 2017 The One Barcelona has showcased both contemporary and other works of art within its public areas. Now the hotel presents a project that has been in development for several years, converting each of its 88 bedrooms into mini galleries. The large format works are presented as headboards, placed directly behind the hotel’s comfortable beds, framed by a simple gold leaf covered profile that contrasts with the dark and moody colour palette. A special edition bound book accompanies the works, a copy of which is placed in each of the rooms.
The series "Pintura de pájaros para una habitación privado" (Paintings of birds for a Private Room) was conceived by the artist Fernando Prats exclusively for the hotel to mark its opening in 2017 and constitutes a statement of intent. Using smoke as a painting material, Prats captures the ephemeral movement of the flight of actual domestic birds, generating compositions of kinetic poetry. Each room in the hotel houses one of these pieces, establishing an intimate dialogue with the architecture and interior design.
