Emerging art at Wittmore Hotel
Due to its connection with art and creativity, Wittmore Hotel is committed to Barcelona's emerging art scene and will exhibit, over the next few months, the works of three young artists, whom it awarded at the 13th edition of the Art Nou festival and will sponsor with this initiative "to make their work visible and contribute to their professional development".
The first exhibition it hosts -until the end of January- is How to Fold a Parachute II by Alícia Vogel (Olot, 1991), a continuation of her solo show at the Mayoral gallery during Art Nou. The artist appropriates the image of a used parachute, unfolded and cut to create an unpublished series of four pieces that deals with accepting the paradox of learning to live with uncertainty.

Having worked in a variety of media, from drawing and painting to video and textile design, Vogel has been recognized for her ability to combine conceptual art and installation in thought-provoking exercises on fragility and resilience. Her work is characterized by contrast, both literal -use of black and white- and symbolic, exploring visual, musical and cinematographic imagineries where there is an abundance of paradox, discomfort and the absurd, as well as vulnerability and the sinister. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona and a cycle in Plastic Arts and Design at the Massana School. She won an extraordinary prize and a grant from the Department of Culture of Japan to exhibit at the Tsukuba Museum of Art, and has subsequently exhibited in various galleries and museums in Barcelona and other cities. She has designed graphic images, textile pieces and film credits for the production company CANADA, and also for video clips, fashion films and various brands.

This exhibition will be followed by two more since the beginning of 2025. One dedicated to Guillem Coma, whose drawings made with ballpoint pen as the main tool were presented at the RocioSantaCruz gallery under the title De la materia del cuerpo, and Tura Sanglas, who exhibited Esclatar en flors, a reflection on crying and joy, at Galería Esther Montoriol.
