Born Blue

Blueproject Foundation

By Brian Gallagher 27.02.14

Blueproject Foundation is a new cultural space recently opened in the Born neighbourhood located within a former retail/industrial space which has been carefully refurbished. BpF is the brainchild of a private individual Vanessa Salvi, art lover and philanthropist who has put together this novel initiative that combines two separate but interconnected elements, art foundation and café/restaurant. Artistc director of BPF is Renato Della Poeta.

The concept is to combine a free access contemporary art space Sala Project with regularly changing exhibitions featuring the work of upcoming and established artists together with an entrance-fee-paying gallery Il Salotto featuring world renowned artworks, also on a continually changing basis. The artists featured within the free-access gallery (located at the front of the gallery towards the street) will be more contemporary and conceptual while the Il Salotto gallery located at the rear will feature classic modern artworks. The current exhibition includes two Andy Warhol works, a sculpture by Yves Klein as well as a canvas by renowned American artist Marc Tansey, original artworks on loan to BpF that are difficult to come across in Barcelona. Measuring 200 sq.m. the gallery is unique in the city providing a contemplative and calm environment for the appreciation of both the craft and the power of genuinely extraordinary works of art.

The other element of the foundation is a separate but connected adjacent restaurant/café space managed by chef Javier Medvedowsky which serves breakfast, lunch and brunch at the weekends specialising in organic, raw, vegetarian and vegan cuisine. The daily updated lunch menu reflects the principles of Barbini’s ecological food philosophy which carries over into the wine list featuring a selection of Spanish organic wines.
