Un-Filtered Barcelona. Kike del Olmo
In his series "Barcelona Sin Filtros" (Barcelona Un-filtered) photographer Kike del Olmo leads the viewer on a journey through Barcelona as authentic as it is unusual, through disparate images of everyday reality to be found on the city’s streets. A selection of 22 photos in this series which can be seen at the Mercat Princesa, from Thursday September 5th through to Thursday November 7th .
Street scenes, looks, gestures, situations ... Neither a montage, nor a set-up, unfiltered in terms of the captured moments that the photographer has recorded with these spontaneous images. Regarding Barcelona the author’s muse and font of inspiration, he says: "The truth is that it’s a very exciting city in terms of the sheer quantity of images generated every day on the streets. The diversity, the mix of cultures, social classes, and lifestyles is amazing. I think the best thing about the city is its constant movement and diversity.” But the exhibition title also has a second reading: "The title is a statement that reflects the real Barcelona, its street and every day life. The filter I want to remove is the postcard Barcelona, a mere fantasy with its Gaudi architecture and perfect hotels. "
The photographs on display have been compiled within a self titled book published recently by Lunwerg with a foreword by Jesus Aguado and texts from various authors, including Maruja Torres, Joan Manuel Serrat and Loquillo. The book will be on display and for sale (21 Euros) till the end of the exhibition.
Kike del Olmo has spent twenty years as a professional photographer and has worked throughout the world photographing people and events for the press, travel magazines and exhibitions.
