Barcelona Gallery Weekend 2018
A weekend of art
Barcelona’s private art galleries are a wonderful if somewhat underused resource, they play a vital cultural role by sponsoring emerging talent in the arts and providing them with a platform and a voice. In this regard the city’s galleries also play a valuable role as ambassadors of local artists abroad, at art fairs across the world. For the art loving local public however the private gallery can be an intimidating space, people are sometimes reticent about crossing the threshold. The Barcelona Gallery Weekend starting on September 26th and running till September 30th aims to change all that with different events and activities being organised to break down the barriers between private art galleries and art loving locals.
This year the fourth edition of the Barcelona Gallery Weekend includes 28 galleries and 46 artists in total as well as five artistic interventions that are located within iconic architectural spaces around the city. This year the BGW includes four more galleries than last year. In addition there are several organised routes with guides, the ARCO Gallery Walks taking place on the 29th and 30th in diverse areas such as the Eixample, Gràcia, Poblenou and Ciutat Vella.

Another interesting feature is the inclusion of art works with a value under 2,000 Eur. with the idea of encouraging younger art collectors to start investing in emerging art talents.

Barcelona Gallery Weekend is promoted by Art Barcelona and has the institutional support of the City Council of Barcelona (ICUB), the Generalitat of Catalonia (ICEC), the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, the City Council of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and of the Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture (PICE) of Spanish Cultural Action in its modality of visitors.
