Barcelona in black and white

Suite Barcelona by Joan Pla

01.02.19

Joan Pla Bosch (Barcelona 1941) presents Suite Barcelona, a photographic record of the city’s streets, squares and parks and the people that inhabit them randomly selected, taken between the years 2010 and 2016. Pla is self taught, he cites Xavier Miserachs, Català-Roca, Joan Colom and Leopoldo Pomés as his great influences. In the tradition of these photographers each image presents a separate and individual narrative which when brought together reflects the diversity of a cosmopolitan metropolis of the 21st century through the lens of its captured light.

His photographic shots, all in black and white, are the result of his filed work “wandering through the urban realm always looking out for something that every now and then I find,” in his own words. The book includes 3,000 photos that were captured by the author over the last decade; a testimony without words, except for the title caption that accompanies each of them, in three different languages: Spanish, Catalan and English.
