Usame Luce

Studiostore lighting exhibition

By Brian Gallagher 29.04.13

A new collection of lamps from the design duo USAME, featuring their now familiar repertoire of upcycled materials, scaffolding poles and wood put to surprising and ingenious ends. This, their first lighting collection consists of standard lamps, ceiling and wall fittings as well as table top lamps. Presented at Studiostore the design studio, shop and gallery located in the Born area of Barcelona the exhibition runs till the 4th of May.

Esther López (interior designer) and Marisol Gonzalez (graphic designer) are the two components of USAME, since founding thier studio in 2010 they have presented several furniture collections and designed installations within emblematic Barcelona restaurants and hotels such as the Pez Vela at the base of the W Barcelona. This approach to design is very current and is predicated on the concept of reuse and providing a second life for some of the discarded elements of contemporary construction but which nonetheless have intrinsic value. Reasonably priced these lamps are also aesthetically pleasing and functional while also perhaps pointing towards a more sustainable philosophy regarding how we think about our home environment.
