ÚNICO

Architectural Arts & Crafts Gallery

04.02.25

Back in the day the workshops and artisans that contributed to the architectural legacy of Barcelona were as famous as the architects of that era. Taller Amigó (stained glass), or Alfons Jujol i Bach (stone carving) contributed to the frenzy of creativity of the modernisme period and beyond. Nevertheless, these skills are in danger of disappearing if a new generation of artisans don’t continue with a century’s old tradition. And that is where ÚNICO comes into the equation, a platform that seeks to build a bridge between architects and artisans. ÚNICO also provides a gallery for the arts and crafts related to architecture, made possible thanks to the architectural design brand ICONICO. The space is located in Poblenou which is the perfect location to makes connections between the city’s past and future architecture.

ÚNICO is an unprecedented initiative, motivated by contributing to the recovery of the decorative arts by highlighting the great skill of traditional construction trades - stonemasons, metal forgers, cabinetmakers and ceramists - with the help of contemporary artists, to once again provide the recognition they were once given and to prevent these skills from disappearing due to a lack of interest. ÚNICO is, at the same time, a consultation space for architects to beautify their works and an incentive to attract new generations to these trades.
