La Algodonera Market Lab
Shopping can be a chore for some or a cherished pass time for others, love it or hate it we all to do it in today’s consumer society. Weekend markets however can provide common ground where quirky miscellanea, food and drink provide something for everybody. This is the case with La Algodonera Market Lab which takes place on the spectacular terrace of the Cotton House Hotel, its second edition. La Algodonera Market Lab provides a retail space for established and emerging manufacturers and crafts to present their goods in a friendly atmosphere with drinks, food and live DJs. An enjoyable way to discover some very talented creative talents on a summer afternoon in Barcelona city centre, the complete opposite to fighting through crowds of shoppers on Puerta Ferrisa. Over the summer and the autumn the event will be held once a month approximately (except for August).
Under the title Textiles, flavours and design LALM has something for everyone with a full bar, gourmet tapas and deserts. The event is cosponsored by Estrella Dam. It’s also a perfect opportunity to visit one of the most extraordinary hotels to open in Barcelona in recent years. The interior is by Lázaro Rosa-Violán, who converted this building which was originally built as a neoclassical palace during the 19th Century and subsequently became the headquarters for the Fundación Textil Algodonera (Cotton Textile Foundation) during the mid 20th Century. Textiles once represented a very important aspect of the local economy here in Catalonia during the Belle Epoque of the 19th Century.

The organisers have ensured that new designers and proposals will be featured with each edition, some of the highlights that will be featured during the upcoming edition this Saturday June 11th includes; Jamie Hayon with BD Barcelona; Axalko, who make bespoke mountain bikes using mostly wood; Nana Ubach, footwear designer; Vintimage, manufacturer of vintage style furniture; Gancedo Ready, linens and collections of bags and cushions; Isabel Lamadrid, contemporary jewellery and Bas Barcelona, ceramics.
