Mediterranean Suites

18.09.12

The first of an intermittent series of articles that will consider some of the more interesting hotel rooms located in Barcelona. Interest from foreign and national tourists visiting the city shows no signs of waning, if anything numbers are up on last year which in itself was record breaking year. Competition between four and five star hotels is fierce, one of the benefits is the increasingly imaginative approaches to design and service that all Barcelona residents can benefit from.

Our first feature is the Mediterranean Suites located at Le Méridien Barcelona and designed by Isabel López Vilalta + Asociados, right in the heart of the old city. 19 suites in total located on the upper floors of the hotel, the refurbishment also includes a Spa. All of the rooms feature locally sourced materials (including the emblematic floor ceramics), furniture (Santa & Cole) and even selected works from local artists such as Jaume Amigó. Conceived as an antidote to the typical anonymous hotel room, these spaces are very much of the city and celebrate the design culture and avant-garde artistic spirit that has come to define Barcelona over recent decades. With unique views over the city, their relaxed and comfortable interiors the only danger is not actually leaving your suite to explore Barcelona itself.
