REmix

BD

24.11.17

REcuperate, REuse and REinterpret. Three precepts for a project, REmix, which is inspired without complexes in the kitchen of our grandmothers. Cooking with leftovers is something as old as necessary. And no less creative. In our own cookbook there are memorable dishes that are prepared with the hard bread of the previous day or with the remains of the chicken we grilled on Sunday. Remains that, wisely reused and reinterpreted, for example like a cannelloni, can become a masterpiece of cuisine.

Remains are also accumulated in the companies warehouses in the design sector. Generally they are loose pieces or components that were part of a piece of furniture and have been forgotten in a drawer, because there was a surplus of manufacture or because they have been discontinued. A considerable stock that hardly can be sold and goes growing with the step of the time until becoming a problem. It loses all its value and continues to occupy a space. Its end is usually destruction, certified, because it is what the Law requires.

BD also accumulated obsolete material, but before considering destroying it, they thought they could give it a second chance. Among this material were the ironworks designed by Cristian Cirici that were so successful in the eighties of the last century that they stopped selling when the company changed its direction to focus on other markets. In its current catalog there are no door handles, but there are unique pieces, so why not turn your remains into a work of art design? Until the end of stocks, so it would also be a limited edition. An idea that, if the example were assimilated and other manufacturers would put it into practice, the planet and the inventory of their companies would appreciate it.

This project was named REmix, since it also has something of remix, like disco music that became fashionable at that time when many of those pieces were designed. And to carry it out they counted on the participation of different authors. REmix Vol. 1 is a limited series of candelabras made by Curro Claret. Because of their profile and their professional career they could not choose a more suitable designer to start with. And REmix Vol. 2 consists of a series of sideboards, in this case developed by Ramón Úbeda together with the BD technical team. These come with fronts and shelves plated in dark stained natural oak, aluminium legs with brass bath, and details (balls, handles and propellers) in polished varnished brass.
