Joan Lao Collection
Respected Barcelona designer Joan Lao has established a career as a designer and manufacturer of modern furniture who assiduously avoids ephemeral trends in order to focus on the timeless, quality materials and beauty. Refinement of detail and the patina of age are two of the characteristics that he has pursued as a designer, characteristics that are not necessarily understood through the medium of print but which need to be experienced in reality in order to fully appreciate. For the Original collection he has partnered with ST Muebles a family run firm based in Castellón founded in 1985 by Tomás Barrachina and currently directed by his son José María Barrachina.
Officially launched in Barcelona on October 17th at the Joan Lao showroom at C. Balmes 217 the Original collection consists of bookcases, sofas, tables, chairs and lighting, it includes an alabaster pendant lamp as well as the Difusa range (using timber) which play with the idea of translucency and the opaque. Suitable for the domestic client or contract the collection marks a new departure for Lao as he has formerly both designed and manufactured his own furniture. With this collaboration several generations of craft and manufacturing are combined with Lao’s unique sensibility in design.
