Nordicthink / Marimekko
Patterns, colours & life
The desire to provide good honest design at reasonable prices inspired Nordicthink which specializes in Scandinavian furniture, lighting and accessories to be the first shop in Barcelona to offer this renowned Finnish design brand Marimekko. The 2014 Spring/Summer home decor collections were recently presented there.
Among this season’s novelties are included the Kurjenpolvi collection, featuring floral motifs designed by Aino-Maija Metsola in grey and yellow tones are inspired by flower bouquets drawn using delicate pencil strokes. This motif is repeated for all the pieces of the collection; fabrics, cushion covers, tablecloths, linens, plates, cups ... etc..

The motif used for the Räsymatto collection is inspired by the carpets that are used within the traditional Finnish log cabins. The new tones used for the circular dots include dark grey, black and yellow which are used to decorate the fabrics, cushion covers and bed linen of the collection.

In 2014 the company celebrates the 50th anniversary of the iconic 'Unikko' print designed by Maija Isola in 1964. Shortly after the company was founded by Armi Ratia, Marimekko announced that it would never use a floral motif, Maija completely ignored the company directive by designing a whole collection of floral prints in protest. One of which was ‘Unikko’.
