Margot House

Designer B&B in BCN

By B. Gallagher 16.09.15

Margot House is a new boutique B&B located on Barcelona’s premier avenue, Passeig de Gràcia directly in front of two emblematic buildings Casa Batlló and Casa Atmetller. This small and intimate hotel consists of nine rooms together with reception area and breakfast room. The name is inspired by the quirky character that actress Gwyneth Paltrow played in the film The Royal Tenenbaums, Margot Tenenbaum. Margot House adds to the increasingly varied range of tourist accommodation currently on offer in Barcelona city centre.

The design approach has been influenced by a Scandinavian sensibility, almost minimalist with natural materials and especially wood predominating throughout. Before its refurbishment the hotel was previously a private apartment, the extensive terrace to the courtyard was closed-in and converted into additional living space by the previous owners and is now used as a relaxation area for hotel guests furnished with generous sofas armchairs and tables.

Sandra Durany, tireless traveller and one of the owners of the hotel, was inspired by a different types of accommodation around the globe in order to create a small hotel with a big personality. Great attention is paid to the small but nonetheless important design details at Margot House; Egyptian linen sheets, 100% cashmire blankets and pure cotton towels sourced from Turkish hammams. An attention to detail that includes everything from the hotel bedroom keys (each is unique), to the do not disturb signs for weary guests and a personalised listing of unmissable off the beaten track attractions in Barcelona. All nine guestrooms at Margot House are decorated with quality natural materials, continuous micro-cement surfaces and iconic fittings like the award winning Miquel Milà lamps as well as other furniture by local designers.
