Like a sunny day
An apartment in Barcelona's Eixample
The architects describe this refurbishment Project as a “sunny day of spring” located within Barcelona’s Eixample neighbourhood. This light filled apartment with a versatile layout includes spaces that flow into each other avoiding strict boundaries and compartments. Lighting, colours and furniture have been designed to recreate the feel of the outdoors.
The entrance is a room in its own right with a bench, high ceilings, bar-kitchen, original woodwork, sky blue ceiling and garlands of color, recreate the atmosphere of a picnic with friends in Spring.

The kitchen island is made using marble and extends towards the hall with overhead lighting that casts shadows on the original brick wall, its imperfections betray the different refurbishments that have been carried out over the years.

A brick lined corridor leads to the main living area where the previous false ceiling has been removed to highlight the typical generous floor to ceiling heights of the Eixample. The room is sub-divided into different zones and encompases the original balcony that gives access to the south facing courtyard. The balcony and original gallery are painted coral pink to enhance the light within this ambiguous space, an inside / outside space perfect for an afternoon siesta.

The main living room is connected to a double dressing room opening via two sliding doors made using the original refurbished doors recovered from the original apartment. The first dressing room area connects with a large bathroom, an en-suite. The second dressing room area accesses a mezzanine level reached via a ladder off the entrance. The staircase / shelf separates the more private area of the dressing room from the entrance and open plan kitchen. It also accommodates a perforated sliding metal door that makes an optical effect by superimposing one perforated panel over a fixed panel. At the base of the staircase / shelf, there is a bench-drawer providing additional storage.
