Europe's most famous Christmas decoration shop opens in Barcelona
The German firm Käthe Wohlfahrt, famous in European for its Christmas decorations, has just opened its first store in Spain in Barcelona. This emblematic establishment which will in fact be open throughout the year, is conceived as a Christmas town, with a four and a half meter tall Christmas tree inside, around which are arranged countless unique decoration items created by craftsmen and craftswomen using only the best quality materials with great attention to detail.
Since 1964 inspired by the world of traditional toys and the inexhaustible complexity of nature Käthe Wohlfahrt has been manufacturing original Christmas objects in their workshop based in Rothenburg (Germany), everything from traditional pieces to more contemporary items.

A multitude of decorative pieces such as the incense smokers, created more than 20 years ago and currently available in hundreds of different versions as it is one of their best seller objects, nutcrackers, music boxes, Cuckoo clocks, their "pyramids", snowballs, without forgetting to mention the many unique decorations for the Christmas tree, such as the typical metallic and glass balls and stars, as well as original gingerbread pieces, animals and all kinds of miniatures inspired by different popular legends.

Carroussel music box
A music box featuring the song ‘Silent Night, Holy Night’ was how it all started for this Käthe Wohlfahrt. The married couple, Wilhelm and Käthe Wohlfahrt, wanted to give the same box to a family of American friends and it was almost impossible to get it since the Christmas season was over. Finally they found it in a wholesale store, so they had to buy ten, and they managed tp sell the other nine without difficulty. This is how they discovered that there was a market for Christmas decorative objects throughout the year.
For Barcelona they have chosen the Gothic quarter to locate their shop in an area filled with artisan establishments full of history. Here, in addition to all the products found in Käthe Wohlfahrt stores in Europe, you can buy exclusive pieces inspired by the city: Gaudí inspired designs, the traditional 'caganer' and customers can even find the Virgin of Montserrat, best known as 'La Moreneta'.
