Explorer by BD Barcelona
Rounded forms & bright colours
Explorer is a new collection of side tables designed by Jaime Hayon for BD Barcelona. The colourful design is typical of the playful forms and post-modern references found in the work of one of Spain’s most recognised industrial designers. The body of the table is made from lacquered fibreglass while the legs are made from solid wood, also lacquered. The table top consists of a painted glass surface. The collection includes tables of different heights and diameters. The following description is provided by the designer.
Explorer is a series of side tables (Explorer 1, 2 and 3) inspired by a playful sensibility that resemble jelly beans, those rounded sweets so loved by kids in the USA. That childhood inspiration at the same time possesses an elegant beauty that is something that characterizes my design generally. These are new forms, different to other objects on the market that are destined to become emblematic pieces, given that the tables as well as being functional are powerful sculpturally. The fact that lacquering some parts in a glossy finish while others are in matte with reflective surfaces provided for the tops and the different combinations of colours underlines the collection’s playful quality that aims at being blatantly decorative. They are pieces that dialogue with one another. Monochrome versions with the same sculptural and exclusive character are also exclusively through BD.
