A recently refurbished restaurant interior located in the La Barceloneta neighbourhood provides the designers with an opportunity to mix land and sea. The project was designed by Tarruella Trenchs which over the years has established a reputation on its impacting interiors. Amongst its projects are Michelin Star restaurants such as El Celler de Can Roca (Gerona), Can Jubany, Castillo Perelada, Celeri as well as design colaborations witj Carlos Abellán, Ciccio Sultano and more recently Paco Perez.

The Barceloneta Restaurant, one of the most emblematic belonging to the Olivé Group, continues to be as popular today as it was when it opened originally in 1996. The commission was to update its image without losing the seafaring essence and the warmth of its dining rooms, while allowing greater flexibility of use.

The restaurant is organized over three levels. On the ground floor the entrance hall, on the first floor the dining room and main terrace while the second floor is reserved for private parties. All the spaces are connected by a generous main staircase that connects all levels. A large ceramic mural lines the stair, inspired by the codes of that nautical flags use for communication at sea. This decorative element adds a touch of colour and movement, providing a great focal point from the entrance area.

The idea was to completely alter the space by introducing richer materials and more contemporary maritime references. Also, by providing more clarity and luminosity, while maintaining the cosy ambience of the space.

Specifically for this restaurant interior the atrezzo concept was developed by placing new elements to provide a more marine image. The project also involved a collaboration with Carme Balada to develop a new collection of vases, inspired by marine elements, as well as Claudia Valsells, who created 4 ceramic pieces that explain the geographical history of La Barceloneta using her own unique individual technique and vibrant colour.

The final result is a contemporary light filled and cosy space. One that is inspired by the image of a yacht club and that relates to the excellent gastronomic products that diners can enjoy at the restaurant.
