El Recibidor

Vintage Design Barcelona

By Brian Gallagher 07.01.14

El Recibidor is a vintage design showroom that came about as a result of the passion and interest of three colleagues for the design and aesthetics of the 20th Century, especially the 50s, 60s and 70s; Jorge Carrascosa (short films director), Antonio Dos Santos (art director) and Gerard Thomas (art director). Specializing in furniture (chests of drawers, tables, side tables, etc.), lamps, electrical appliances, hi-fi, decorative pieces, ceramics ... sourced both domestically and imported from England, Germany and Italy specifically selected and rigorously and professionally restored in order to regain their original splendour. A multifunctional space measuring some 140 m2 located on C. Viladomat at the epicentre of the up and coming Sant Antoni neighbourhood the showroom was designed by Iban Calzada. It features a double height space with a mezzanine office and an open air patio located at the very rear. As well as being a store/showroom it also accommodates a design studio and is available for photographic shoots, filming and other events. The exhibition area acts as a large showroom catering to professionals, artists and the general public. The name El Recibidor is inspired by the owners’ ambition to offer furniture and decorative objects from the mid 20th Century in an alternative way with photography and illustration exhibitions, openings, presentations and live auctions. According to Jorge and Gerard “furniture and objects are able to tell the story of their time, to provide a unique feeling and even to interact with people almost as if they were alive.”
