Earth, Sea & Air
Héctor Serrano for Faro Barcelona
Simple, refined silhouettes and a tactile material define this collection of lamps designed by Héctor Serrano for the lighting company Faro Barcelona. There are three models in total, with different versions / sizes of all three, printed using 3D technology. The project encourages a dialogue about our relationship with the planet and its resources, in response to the current climate crisis. Nature does not generate waste, providing a valuable lesson in the transition towards a more circular-economy and sustainable production.
The collection’s creator, Héctor Serrano, was inspired by three of nature’s classical elements that lend the lamps their name: Earth, Sea and Air. The volume and shapes of each design are inspired by elements of our planet, with the aim of paying tribute to nature and with the purpose of emphasizing the respect we must have towards it. Although each of the collections are visually different due to the nature of the material, they all share three common elements in terms of design: harmony, authenticity and versatility.

The three models are manufactured with large-scale 3D printing, which allows for local production on request. As well as reducing the need to stock-pile, reduced transportation and the elimination of moulds. The collection is part of the democratization of digital craftsmanship, since each of the pieces has a unique printed quality making them a one-of, so to speak.

Simple, familiar and timeless forms that are compatible with any setting, allowing the details of the material to be appreciated. Each takes on a silhouette of an evocative shape associated with the medium they represent, with three versions / dimensions of the different lamps. Earth references the iconic shapes of beehives; Sea resembles a sea urchin and Air adopts a globe in a translucent skin through the striations of the printing process.
