DORO, Japanese Tableware

12.01.26

Over recent years Barcelona has fallen in love with Asian cuisine, and specifically with Japanese cuisine. The proliferation of Japanese restaurants that have sprouted up around the city is testament to that interest. As well as the different cooking techniques and ingredients Japanese food is renowned for its presentation. Dishes served on unusual tableware that form an intrinsic part of the gastronomic experience. Just like everything else that the Japanese do, they have mastered the art of tableware with unusual pieces that complement the food being served. Sushi-chef Fabiola Lairet now brings these pieces to Spain in a showroom that resembles an Aladin’s cave where cooking and design enthusiasts will be able to browse and get advice on artisanal Japanese tableware.

There was a time when every household had its good China on display, while day-to-day crockery was less precious, more utilitarian than beautiful. The mission of DORO is to add beauty to the act of eating, both for the home for restaurants that are increasingly incorporating Asian influences in their cooking. Lairet is the perfect person to help customers with their enquiries, her experience is the sector as a chef, entrepreneur and visionary is unique.

The word 'doro' means clay in Japanese, the raw material that everything in the showroom is made from. There are literally hundreds of authentic pieces on display, handcrafted Japanese Minoyaki ceramic tableware, freshly arrived from workshops throughout the Gifu region in central Japan. The shop is located in the Dreta de lEixampe neighbourhood, 61 Caspe Street, near Passeig de Sant Joan. DORO is also the latest business venture of Fabiola Lairet, an engineer turned entrepreneur, sushi chef, and successful businesswoman who founded the well-known Japanese restaurants Monster Sushi and Robata (owned by Umai Group since 2021).
