Showroom & Offices
The design of a showroom says everything you need to know about the brand, the care and attention to this interior design project reflects the products on display. The Sant Cugat based carpet showroom Cumellas is the perfect example. A joint design collaboration between Olga Pajares Interiors and Sandra Tarruella Interioristas collectively known as Studio Central Project, not only creates a wonderful exhibition space to showcase the carpets and rugs but also a comfortable workplace. The following description was provided by the designers.
The project came about from a commission by Cumellas for the creation of its new showroom and offices in the Sant Cugat industrial park. The firm, led by Xavier Papiol (the third generation of a family with over 60 years in the industry) specialises in contemporary rugs crafted by artisans in India, Pakistan, and Nepal using traditional techniques. Their brand focuses on original collections that fuse modern design with artisanal expertise.

Our task was to transform an industrial building, originally organised into two separate office floors, into an open, double-height corner space that functions as a large showcase and showroom. To achieve this, the two floors were connected by an interior staircase, and various interventions were carried out, all of which were executed with dedication and precision by Studio Central Project.
-
The partial demolition of the first floor created a double-height space that provides a sense of spaciousness and visibility. In turn, the opening of the façade with large panoramic windows invites passersby to discover the interior, transforming the showroom into a vibrant display where the rugs take centre stage.
-
Using a pulley system inspired by theatrical stage equipment, we were able to display the full-size carpets, suspended from the double height ceiling, allowing visitors to admire their design and quality. This practical system allows for easy-to-manage changes whenever necessary. The entire space had to reflect the sensitivity and craftsmanship that define the brand.
-
As a central element, a six-meter lattice made by Fusteria Vidal stands out, in walnut and fluted glass, which provides privacy to the offices and serves as a backdrop for carpets suspended by means of a pulley system that allows them to be displayed dynamically.
-
The atmosphere is created with warm, natural materials: lime washed walls, micro-cement floors, and acoustic ceilings in earthy tones. In the main office, a draped ceiling featuring hanging natural fibre carpets in earth tones and black provides acoustic insulation and a creative nod to the product itself. The showroom incorporates mobile furniture for samples, sliding systems for organizing finished products, and a storage area with direct street access. The upper floor contains the offices, restrooms, meeting rooms, kitchenette, and sample archive, all visually connected by glass partitions that allow natural light to flow through.
-
The furniture combines pieces from Nikari—a Nordic brand represented by Cumellas—with designs from Mobles 114, Muuto, & tradition, Wastberg, Vibia, and Santa & Cole. For lighting, Viabizzuno provides warm, focused light that enhances the rugs without altering their tones.
-
The result is a space that reflects the essence of Cumellas: the union between craftsmanship and contemporary design, naturalness and sophistication, designed to convey the excellence of its products and its commitment to artisan tradition.
