Charlotte Perriand at Minim
20th Century Modernist Icon
This week is the last opportunity to visit the exhibition of furniture inspired by Charlotte Perriand (1903 – 1999) architect and industrial designer at Minim, the design showroom on Via Augusta. A wide range of pieces are included within ‘Charlotte Perriand: l’art d’habiter, l’art de vivre’ that represent different periods of this fascinating and revolutionary artist: her collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierrre Jeanneret (that lasted 10 years), with Jean Prouvé, the period she spent in Japan and Vietnam (between 1940 and 1946) as well as her later career when she worked with companies such as Air France.
Perriand also spent time in Catalonia where as well as furthering her research into materials she enjoyed outdoor sporting pursuits reflected in the versatility and movement in many of the pieces she created.

Portrait of Charlotte Perriand
Her work is mostly associated with modernism, with experimentation, with new and traditional materials, with an interest in mass production that captured the warmth and humanity of craft. Even today almost one hundred years after Perriand first embarked on her professional career these pieces look revolutionary, timeless yet avant-garde and are still in commercial production.
