José Antonio Martínez Lapeña y Elías Torres Tur awarded the National Architectural Prize for 2016.
The Ministerio de Fomento (Ministry of National Development) has awarded the National Architecture Award for the year 2016 to the Barcelona based José Antonio Martínez Lapeña and Elías Torres Tur architecture studio, announced in December 2017. The jury recognizes the professional career of these architects, “authors of an extensive body of work over a long joint career that will soon celebrate fifty years of continuing collaboration, during which they have tackled projects of all kinds, from the problematic suburban issues to international commissions, in which they were pioneers in our country. Among their projects that includes public and avant-garde architecture, is the construction and renovation of some of the most significant public spaces of Spanish architecture in recent decades. Always employing a fresh language, which combines civic commitment with a respectful attitude towards the landscape and the historical city, an example of innovation and constant research.”
