Mood a changing ring

A new concept in contemporary jewellery

By Redacción 01.07.19

It all started with an idea that the Swiss designer Cédric Chevalley had during a train journey between Lausanne and Paris. The idea was simple, but quintessentially original: it was about coming up with a minimalist ring that would offer infinite possibilities for personalisation. From the first sketch to the making of the original prototype, the process required different stages of development until in 2004 the final product was presented: the Mood ring.

"The design as well as the interchangeable characteristics of the Moods came to me after several years of jewellery making, as the evident result of my research. With this concept, Mood evolves in tandem with the person who is wearing it ... Finally, a jewel that can adapt to the personality of those who own it and accompany it during its journey", explains Cédric. Specifically the name mood arises from the infinite possibilities for combinations that the design of this ring allows for, which can change as often as the mood of the wearer.

A steel structure forms the base of the piece of jewellery to which a central interchangeable ring called an add-on is accommodated. The system gives great freedom to the owner of the mood ring who can very easily change the style of the jewellery by changing the add-on, available in a wide variety of colours, materials and patterns.

The base is made of 316 L surgical steel (stainless steel), it can be broader (13mm) or narrower (11mm), with rounded edges or non-rounded, polished or matt, in silver or black and with in-set diamonds set or not as preferred. This key piece of the Mood concept, the base, is made up of two separable elements, which are inserted with a click with Swiss precision.

The add-on element that constitutes the central and interchangeable part of the ring, can be made in a wide range of materials such as steel, aluminium, bronze, rose gold, silver, palladium, tantalum, acetate, wood, etc. Some are also available with in-set diamonds. As for the patterns, Mood offers a wide variety of lines and designs of different inspiration: Africa, Barcelona, Japan, Tahiti, or floral designs, futuristic, geometric, black and white motifs, etc.

Another remarkable, and no less important, feature of mood is that it is designed for both women and men in its basic version, but at the same time can be decorated with ornaments that give it a more feminine or masculine feel.
