Alrevés, by Sandra Tarruella
Mediterranean interior design
Jorge Gay de Montella, which belongs to the Trapío group, commissioned Sandra Tarruella's studio to renovate the former Bimba's restaurant. The idea was to re-imagine the space put the restaurant back on the radar of Barcelona's rich gastronomic offering. Alrevés is located just off Av. Diagonal, the nerve centre of the city, near the Pedralbes neighbourhood. The interior design studio submitted the following description.
Alrevés is a Mediterranean restaurant serving lunch, dinner and cocktails. There is also an outdoor terrace that transforms the building’s frontage into a living façade on this busy avenue.
-
When creating the project, the starting point was to add a homely touch and additional lighting to the space, turning the dining room into a large white box that contrasts with the dark wood floor, and at the same time lending it a warmth and elegance with the use of quality natural materials. The suspended ceiling grid, made with absorbent slats, not only adds a visually interesting element to the dining room but also contributes to the acoustic comfort of the room.
-
The furniture is placed in a playful way, tables and chairs of different shapes and colours are combined turning the restaurant into a dynamic and eye-catching space where there’s something for everyone, and where task and general lighting is combined to add ambence t the restaurant. interior.
-
The existing tables and bar counter are refurbished, lending them a new look that is topped-of with a metal and timber glass holder over the bar.
-
The main entrance where diners wait to be seated also includes a bar, where diners can enjoy a cocktail after lunch or dinner. The main dining area is separated into two zones with a large storage unit in the middle for cutlery and tableware to make life easier for the wait staff.
-
Most of the restaurant furniture is made of oak timber and Iroko. Custom made tables to accommodate groups that work as sculptural elements within the space and are the main interior design features, lending the space a warm and welcoming ambience.
-
The terrace is conceived as an extension of the interior, which flows outwards through the same design language, and the same colour ceiling as inside that extends outwards. The outdoor seating area is organised using a series of planters and vegetation, pots of different heights and sizes that light up at night and create a laid back and magical garden atmosphere in the middle of the city.
