Adela Cabré & Son

New location

By Brian Gallagher 02.11.21

The collaboration between interior designer Adela Cabré and her architect son, Albert Serrano opens its doors on a new era, marking a new location and name Adela Cabré & Son but with the same sensibility and professional attention to detail. Formerly located on the corner of Enric Granados and Diputación the new office is accommodated within a ground floor space and rear garden in the Sarrià - Sant Gervasi neighbourhood. It marks three years since the working collaboration between mother and son began. The project can be seen as a mission statement for Adela Cabré & Son’s carefully curated and structured approach to design.

The various spaces of the new office are connected in a linear organisation that runs from street to private courtyard to the rear. The entrance hall is accessed from a set-back garden protected by railings, off the street, this leads to a meeting area and kitchenette with a more private working studio in the middle section of the floor plan. The library and samples area overlooks the landscaped garden at the rear. There is a sense here of a very pleasant working environment with lots of natural light flooding the studio. And that every square meter has been used cleverly. Wall finishes, flooring, textiles, lighting, joinery and furniture all stand testament to 25 years of experience in making beautiful spaces. Although normally Adela Cabré is more used to working on residential projects the same sensibility is on display here at this working space.

“I have always wanted to design spaces where people live their best lives in an honest way. I consider that the ideal interior is one capable of simultaneously combining comfort, calm and joy in living there. And in these last three years of working together, I have seen how my son, as an architect, has enjoyed the small scale, has discovered the involvement and intimacy that residential space entails and has respected the dedication and responsibility that have characterised my life and way of understanding the profession from the beginning, regardless of the size or scope of the projects,” explains Adela Cabré.

For the official opening the Italian-Swiss lighting artist Massimiliano Moro was invited to create several installations. Moro installed an ephemeral and site-specific intervention typical of his work that unites light, shadow, colour and movement, always related to the human scale and perception.

For Adela Cabré the emphasis continues to be providing her projects with a refined, coherent and essential style, characterised by her professional attitude over all project phases, sensitivity in the use of materials, always of the highest quality, featuring mostly neutral colour tones, with genuine character. Always endeavouring to lend spaces a sensual quality, putting the emphasis on things that improve the quality of life avoiding passing trends and prioritising, above all, comfort, balance and harmony.
